Connect Slack
Connect your team's Slack workspace, choose the channels Pluto Ads may post in, and your loops and agents can tell the team what they found and did, right where the team already talks: "3 ads paused for spending without results", "Spring sale US reached 80% of its daily budget by noon".
Pluto Ads only posts. It never reads your messages, your channels' history or who is in them.
Connecting
Owners and admins connect one Slack workspace per Pluto workspace:
- Open Integrations and select Connect Slack.
- Slack asks you to allow Pluto Ads in your Slack workspace. Check the workspace in the top right corner, then select Allow.
- Slack sends you back to Integrations. The banner says "Slack connected" and asks you to choose channels.
If your company uses Slack Enterprise Grid, install Pluto Ads into one of its workspaces, not the whole organization. Installing it into the whole organization doesn't connect.
Pluto Ads asks Slack for these permissions, and uses each one for one thing:
| Permission | What Pluto Ads uses it for |
|---|---|
| Send messages as Pluto Ads | Post the messages your loops, your agents and the test button send |
| Send messages to channels Pluto Ads isn't a member of | Post in a public channel you chose without inviting Pluto Ads first |
| View basic information about public channels | List public channels when you choose them, and check a chosen channel still exists |
| View basic information about private channels Pluto Ads was added to | List the private channels you invited Pluto Ads to |
The card shows the Slack workspace's name and the connected channels. Members see the connection but can't change it. Guests (clients and reviewers) don't see it.
Choosing channels
Pluto Ads posts only in channels an admin connected. Nobody, including a loop or an agent, can post anywhere else.
- On the Slack card, select Choose channels. Once channels are connected, it's in the card's menu.
- Find channels with Search channels and check them. Load more channels loads the rest of a large Slack workspace. You can connect up to 50.
- Select Save channels. Slack confirms each channel exists and isn't archived.
Unchecking a channel and saving disconnects it.
Private channels appear only after you invite Pluto Ads: in Slack, open the channel and send
/invite @Pluto Ads, then choose channels again. They show a lock.
If a connected channel is archived or deleted in Slack, or someone removes Pluto Ads from a private channel, the card says Pluto Ads can't post in #channel, and why. Restore the channel or invite Pluto Ads again, or choose other channels.
Posting from loops
The Post to Slack block in Notify posts a message when the loop reaches it. Choose the
Channel from the connected ones, add an optional Title and write the Message. Slack formatting
works: *bold*, _italic_, bullet lists and links like <https://plutoads.ai|Pluto Ads>.
Select Send test message in the block's settings to see the message in the channel right away.
An Agent step can post to Slack too, when Notify and Slack is on under What the Agent may do.
Without Slack connected, the block is shown with "Connect Slack" and can't be added. If a step's channel is disconnected later, the loop asks you to choose another one. See Loops.
Posting from agents
The Agent and the agents you connect over MCP or the API can post to connected channels too, for example "Post a summary of yesterday's spend to #ads-alerts". Posting needs the write permission, like any other change in the workspace.
Every message says who sent it, a person or an agent, and that it came from Pluto Ads. Mentions that
notify a whole channel (@channel, @here, @everyone) or a user group are sent as plain text, so an
automation never pings everyone. Link previews are off.
Each message is posted once. If Slack doesn't answer in time, Pluto Ads doesn't send it again on its own, because it may already be in the channel.
Slack takes about one message per second in each channel. Pluto Ads spaces messages to the same channel for you; a burst larger than that waits its turn or is asked to try again a moment later.
Disconnecting
Open the Slack card's menu and choose Disconnect, then Disconnect Slack. Pluto Ads deletes its access and the connected channels, and nothing can post until an admin connects again. Messages already in Slack stay there. When no other workspace of yours uses the same Slack workspace, Pluto Ads is also removed from Slack.
If someone removes Pluto Ads from your Slack workspace, Pluto Ads notices at once. The card says Reconnect needed and Slack needs to be connected again, and loops and agents can't post until an admin selects Reconnect Slack. Your connected channels are kept for when you do.
Troubleshooting
- Connect Slack isn't there. Only owners and admins connect Slack. Members see "Ask an admin to connect Slack." instead.
- A private channel isn't in the list. Invite Pluto Ads to it in Slack with
/invite @Pluto Ads. - "Pluto Ads can't post in #channel". The channel was archived or deleted, or Pluto Ads was removed from it. Restore it, invite Pluto Ads again, or choose another channel.
- Reconnect needed. Pluto Ads was removed from your Slack workspace, or its access was revoked. Select Reconnect Slack.
- A message didn't arrive after an error. When Slack didn't answer in time, the message may still be in the channel. Check before you send it again.
